PNG to JPG Converter
Convert PNG images to JPG, usually at a fraction of the file size. JPG has no transparency, so you choose which colour fills transparent areas — white by default.
90% is effectively indistinguishable on photographs.
Transparent areas are filled with this colour. White suits most pages; match a dark page here instead.
How to use PNG to JPG
- Add one or more PNG files.
- Pick the background colour for any transparent areas.
- Set the JPG quality.
- Convert, check the previews, and download individually or as a ZIP.
About this tool
PNG stores every pixel exactly, which is ideal for screenshots and graphics with sharp edges and dreadful for photographs — a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same picture as a JPG at a quality nobody can tell apart. Converting photographic PNGs is the single easiest way to cut image weight on a website.
The catch is transparency. PNG supports an alpha channel; JPG has no concept of one. Every converter has to decide what goes behind the transparent pixels, and the usual default of white is fine on a white page and obviously wrong on a dark one. This tool lets you pick that colour, so a logo destined for a dark background composites correctly instead of arriving in a white box.
For anything with sharp text or flat colour — screenshots, diagrams, UI mockups, logos with crisp edges — converting to JPG is a mistake regardless of quality. JPG compression works in 8×8 blocks and leaves visible noise around hard edges. Keep those as PNG, or use WebP in the image compressor to get both transparency and smaller files.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose quality converting PNG to JPG?
Yes — JPG is lossy, so some detail is permanently discarded. At 90% quality it is imperceptible on a photograph. On text or line art it is visible immediately as fringing around the edges.
What happens to transparent areas?
They are filled with the background colour you choose, white unless you change it. Partly transparent pixels are blended proportionally with that colour, so soft shadows and anti-aliased edges composite smoothly.
Can I convert JPG back to PNG afterwards?
You can, but it recovers nothing. The detail JPG discarded is gone for good, and the PNG will simply be a larger file containing the same degraded image. Keep your PNG originals.
Is WebP a better choice than JPG?
Usually, yes. WebP is smaller than JPG at matching quality and supports transparency, so there is no background colour to worry about. Every current browser supports it. The image compressor can output WebP if that suits you better.
